The Trade Union Congress (TUC) and The Carbon Capture and Storage Association (CCSA) commissioned Orion Innovations to prepare a succinct report that set out the benefits of CCS to the UK in a format accessible to a range of key stakeholders, including Ministers, officials, MPs and other advocates.
The crucial role of CCS within a future low carbon energy mix is becoming increasingly recognized in a range of modelling scenarios, but less is understood about the socio-economic benefits associated with the technology. Orion Innovations was asked to prepare a report that incorporated results from recent socio-economic modelling as well as information from past case studies and current ‘shovel ready’ projects, and to present these within the context of the current policy landscape. This involved:
A summary report, entitled 'THe Economic Benefits of CCS in the UK' was launched by the TUC and CCSA at the House of Commons on Tuesday 4th February, and received considerable press interest. On reviewing the report, Cornwall Energy commented in Energy Spectrum (vol 413) 'This report is a timely reminder to government of the potential benefits CCS can bring to the UK economy as well as emissions targets.'
Both summary and full reports can be accessed on the CCSA website.
