Garry has an outstanding technical and business background in the energy and environment sectors with particular expertise in the issues of climate change, fuel poverty and the development of the smart grid. He has extensive international experience having worked in, and for clients in, the UK, USA, France, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Germany, Poland, Southeast Asia, China and Scandinavia.
Garry was previously Chief Executive of the Energy Retail Association (ERA), established in 2003 to represent Britain's domestic energy suppliers. The ERA works with Government, NGOs, charities and other organisations in England, Scotland and Wales to ensure a coordinated approach to dealing with the key issues affecting the industry and the British consumer. Whilst with the ERA, Garry took the industry lead in the planning and design of the supplier led smart meter roll out. Garry was also a Director of the Energy Saving Trust and the Ombudsman Service.
Prior to joining the ERA, Garry was the Managing Director of the consulting business at AEA Technology. He was previously a founder director of the Carbon Trust where he spent five years as Director of Delivery and External Relations, delivering the Trust's Carbon Management solutions and was also a Director at KPMG Consulting, focussing on energy and retail consultancy. Garry has also worked for A T Kearney and IBM.
Garry has an BSc(Hons) in Architectural Engineering and PhD in Building Engineering both from the University of Leeds, an alumnus of the University of Cambridge, HRH The Prince of Wales Business & The Environment Programme and is a Fellow Energy Institute and the RSA.
