Orion Innovations is one of eight project members delivering the EU-funded WaterInnEU project which was launched in Barcelona on March 26th 2015.
Over the last few decades, the European Union has financed a large number of R&D projects with the objective of creating valuable technologies and knowledge for the water sector. This has resulted in the development of innumerable tools, guides, models, protocols and reports, but these have often remained inaccessible and insufficiently disseminated to end users and others who could benefit.
WaterInnEU aims to resolve this problem by creating a virtual marketplace in which products and information deriving from water-based European projects can be readily accessed by end users, businesses and managers. The marketplace will be developed synergistically with the European Innovation Partnership for Water (EIP Water), which is managed by the European Union.
The project will establish dialogue between the principal actors within the sector in order to identify current technological needs and to promote the most promising solutions and innovations. It will also formulate a plan to promote harmonisation, standardisation and interoperability of relevant ICT tools, and will offer consulting and professional technical services in order to support transition of the research results into a usable products.
Via WaterInnEu, it is therefore hoped that the tools, protocols and data produced by European research will be standardised and transferred (via open access) to actors with decision-making powers or will penetrate the market in the form of new products and services.
The project is coordinated by CREAF (Spain), with additional partners: Technische Universiteit Delft (Holland), 52° North Initiative for Geospatial Open Source Software and Adelphi Research (Germany), RandBee (Italy), Antea (Belgium), and the Global Water Partnership - Central and Eastern Europe (Slovakia).
